Pune: In a heart-wrenching incident at Lohegaon, a man and his sister-in-law lost their lives in a road accident while returning home after medical treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Ashirwad Nagesh Govekar (52), a resident of Mapusa, Goa, and his sister-in-law, Reshma Ramesh Govekar (66), who resided in Bhairavnagar, Dhanori, Pune.

The tragedy occurred when Ashirwad accompanied Reshma to the ECH (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health) Hospital of the Air Force due to her deteriorating health. After completing the necessary treatment, the duo set out for home on a two-wheeler. Upon exiting the hospital gate, they attempted to turn towards the main road leading to the 509 junction.

Witnesses reported that vehicles, including a bus, had stopped to allow the two-wheeler to cross the road. However, a speeding Mahindra SUV approached from the 509 junction towards Yerawada. The driver, in an attempt to overtake the stationary vehicles, failed to spot the two-wheeler in time, resulting in a head-on collision.

The impact of the crash was devastating. Ashirwad Govekar succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Reshma Govekar was critically injured and rushed to the nearby ECH Hospital for treatment. She was later transferred to Command Hospital for advanced care, where she tragically passed away during treatment.

A case was registered after Reshma’s daughter filed a formal complaint at the Airport Police Station late at night. The incident has left the family and the local community in deep shock and mourning.
