Pune: The monsoon has been exceptionally generous to Maval Taluka this year, breaking previous rainfall records and significantly boosting water reserves in the region. 

Known for its lush, hilly landscape, Maval has seen both the regular and retreating monsoon bring heavy rains, making it one of the wettest seasons on record.

Lonavala, a renowned hill station famous for its monsoon tourism, has set a new benchmark this year. 

According to recent data recorded on Wednesday (September 25), the town and its surrounding areas have received a staggering 5,595 mm of rainfall since the start of the season. 

This amount surpasses last year's total by more than 1,000 mm, marking an all-time high. The ongoing rains suggest that this figure could climb further before the season concludes.

This abundant rainfall has filled all the nearby reservoirs to capacity, alleviating concerns over water supply for the next year. Local dams are now full, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply for residents and businesses alike.

Pavana Dam Catchment Area Registers Record-Breaking Rainfall
Pavana Dam, which plays a critical role in supplying water to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, various Maval villages, and local industries, is now filled to its brim. 

Rainfall data indicates that the catchment area of Pavana Dam has received over 3,119 mm of rain since June 1, which is 237 mm more than the previous year. This level of rainfall is considered extraordinary for the region, which is already known for its agricultural and scenic significance.

The generous rainfall has not only ensured sufficient water levels but also revitalized the region’s natural beauty, benefitting local agriculture and boosting the tourist appeal of the area. 

In addition to Lonavala and Pavana, other regions of Maval, including Andar Maval, Nane Maval, Talegaon, and Wadgaon, have also enjoyed substantial rainfall. Currently, occasional showers continue across the taluka, further contributing to the season’s record totals.
