Pune: The growing menace of Bullet motorcycles modified to produce firecracker-like sounds is disturbing residents across Pune, including central areas and suburbs. These loud, gunshot-like noises from illegally modified silencers are disrupting sleep, causing distress to hospital patients, and creating a public nuisance.

While Loni Kalbhor Police have launched an enforcement drive, citizens are now questioning when Pune city police will follow suit. Many Bullet riders, particularly young college students, are installing custom silencers that produce sharp, loud bursts of sound, often referred to as ‘Indori Fataka’. This trend has become rampant, with reckless speeding and noise pollution affecting elderly residents, infants, and hospital patients.

Despite multiple complaints, strict action has not been taken in most parts of Pune. However, Loni Kalbhor Police have begun cracking down on offenders.

Action Taken by Loni Kalbhor Police

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Panhale of Loni Kalbhor Police Station formed a special squad to tackle the issue. The team has:

• Taken action against 25 Bullet riders for violating noise pollution regulations.

• Seized their motorcycles and silencers, which were deposited at the police station.

• Imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on the violators.

Will Pune Police Act Against Mechanics and Sellers?

The illegal modification of Bullet silencers is supported by certain garages and silencer vendors, allowing riders to install these noisy devices with ease.

Although Pune’s traffic police have acted in the past, their enforcement efforts have slowed down recently. Citizens are now demanding that the police not only take action against the Bullet riders but also penalize garages and vendors involved in this illegal activity.

With the public outcry growing, the big question remains—when will the Pune Police take action to curb this menace across the city?
