Pune: Madhuri Misal, the BJP MLA from the Parvati constituency, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the second woman Minister of State from Pune city. Misal took the oath of office today after being included in the Maharashtra state cabinet.

Madhuri Misal has represented the Parvati constituency for four consecutive terms, starting in 2009. Her consistent electoral success and effective representation of her constituency have earned her this honor. She is now the second woman from Pune to achieve this position, following in the footsteps of Shanti Naik, who became a Minister of State during the PULOD government in 1978.

Leela Merchant was the first woman MLA from Pune, elected on a Congress ticket. Despite having several women MLAs over the years, Pune had not seen another woman in a ministerial role until now. Misal’s appointment is being celebrated as a victory for women in the city, highlighting their increasing influence in Maharashtra’s political landscape.

Madhuri Misal began her political journey in 2007 as a corporator from the Kasba constituency. In 2009, she transitioned to state politics, winning her first election as an MLA from the Parvati constituency. She has since maintained a stronghold over her constituency, securing victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 elections.

Misal is also the only woman from western Maharashtra to win four consecutive terms as an MLA, underscoring her exceptional political acumen and leadership skills.

Maharashtra has seen nine women Cabinet Ministers and 12 women Ministers of State over the years. Misal’s appointment adds to this list, marking a step forward in ensuring greater representation for women in politics.
