Maharashtra ANiS to Launch Dr. Narendra Dabholkar Lokvidyapeeth

Maharashtra ANiS has decided to push for the implementation of a national anti-superstition law, taking the movement beyond Maharashtra to the national level.

Pune: The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANiS) has announced the launch of ‘Dr. Narendra Dabholkar Lokvidyapeeth,’ an educational initiative aimed at promoting scientific thinking and eradicating superstitions through online courses.

Additionally, the organization has decided to push for the implementation of a national anti-superstition law, taking the movement beyond Maharashtra to the national level. These resolutions were passed during the state executive meeting held on February 1-2 in Ratnagiri.

The two-day meeting saw the participation of 125 ANiS activists and office-bearers from 17 districts across Maharashtra, including district presidents, state committee coordinators, principal secretaries, and advisory board members. The gathering focused on strategies to strengthen the movement against superstitions and expand its impact.

Major Decisions and Initiatives

  • Statewide Women's Conference in March: ANiS will organize a ‘Statewide Anti-Superstition Women’s Conference’ in Nagpur to discuss gender perspectives in rationalist activism.

  • Strengthening Organizational Outreach: A 'Strengthening the Organization' campaign will be conducted until May, during which representatives will visit all ANiS branches across the state to enhance grassroots engagement.

  • Educational Campaigns Against Superstition: A special awareness drive will be launched among educated individuals to address misconceptions and irrational beliefs.

  • Interfaith and Intercaste Marriage Support: ANiS will establish a statewide interfaith and intercaste matchmaking committee to assist individuals interested in rationalist weddings, aligning with social reform movements.

  • Mental Health and Rational Partner Selection: A team of activists will be formed to guide individuals on choosing partners rationally and improving mental well-being.

  • Combating Digital Superstitions and Mobile Addiction: ANiS will actively work on addressing superstition spread through social media and raising awareness about mobile addiction and its psychological impact.
