Pune: As Ramadan approaches, demand for dates and dry fruits has surged in markets across the city. According to Market Yard traders, over 50 varieties of dates have arrived, catering to different consumer preferences. The prices of dates have remained stable compared to last year, but dry fruit prices have increased due to higher import costs.
Market traders confirm that both red and black dates are available this season. The prices for different varieties are as follows:
Red dates: ₹80 to ₹100 per kg
Saudi black dates: ₹120 to ₹300 per kg
Premium Arabian dates: ₹500 to ₹1,200 per kg
"Compared to last year, prices have remained stable. There is high demand for black dates in various packaging styles, as they are imported from Gulf countries and are widely preferred during Ramadan," said Naveen Goyal, a Market Yard trader.
Over 50 types of dates are available, including Ajwa, Magjool, Bumen, Kimia, Fard, Sultan, and Kalmi. These dates are imported from Dubai, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Muscat.
Ajwa, Magjool, and Bumen dates are in high demand due to their rich taste and health benefits. Buyers from Kondhwa, Hadapsar, Khed, Shivapur, Khadki, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Lonavala, and Ahilyanagar are making bulk purchases from the Market Yard.
Dry Fruit Prices Increase Due to Import Costs
The rupee’s depreciation against the US dollar has led to an increase in the cost of importing cashews, almonds, and walnuts, resulting in higher dry fruit prices.
