Pune: In a move aimed at easing the process of obtaining disability certificates for persons with disabilities, the Maharashtra state government has decided to make the service available at the taluka level.

The Public Health Department has issued orders to set up disability certificate services at all 100-bed sub-district hospitals across the state. Under this initiative, a dedicated committee of experts will organize disability certificate camps on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

During these camps, pending applications for disability certificates will be processed and issued promptly. The Public Health Department has instructed Deputy Directors of Health Services, District Surgeons, and District Hospitals to form these committees, which will include specialists from various fields to ensure the efficient functioning of the process.

This decision is expected to bring significant relief to persons with disabilities, many of whom previously had to travel to major cities for certification. This not only consumed considerable time but also added to their financial burden. The new arrangement is anticipated to resolve these challenges effectively.

The state government’s ongoing efforts to enhance facilities for persons with disabilities have been widely recognized. By introducing these camps, the government aims to streamline the certification process, expedite pending applications, and ensure timely service delivery to beneficiaries.
