Pune: Maharashtra has been grappling with unseasonal weather, marked by rain, hailstorms, and fluctuating temperatures over the past few days. The winter chill has subsided due to increased humidity from the Arabian Sea, leading to unexpected rainfall and hailstorms in several areas, causing significant damage.

Simultaneously, northern parts of India, including Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, are experiencing a severe cold wave with foggy conditions and snowfall. This has impacted the weather patterns in Maharashtra, prompting the India Meteorological Department to forecast the activation of dry, cold wind flows. A notable drop in minimum temperatures is expected across the state in the coming days.

Temperature Fluctuations Across Regions

The India Meteorological Department reports that Vidarbha will see a gradual 4-5°C drop in minimum temperatures over the next 24 hours. In Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada, minimum temperatures are expected to dip by 2-4°C. Vidarbha’s maximum temperatures will remain relatively unaffected over the next five days, but the overall weather is expected to become cooler across the state by the New Year.

In Konkan and Central Maharashtra, maximum temperatures may rise slightly by 1-2°C, while minimum temperatures could drop further by 2-4°C. Vidarbha, in particular, may experience a significant 4-5°C reduction in minimum temperatures within the next 24 hours.

Weather Outlook for New Year

The New Year is likely to commence with cooler, dry weather in Maharashtra, as per the India Meteorological Department. However, northern states will continue to face cold wave conditions.

Over the past two days, light to moderate rain showers were observed in various parts of the state, along with sporadic hailstorms. On Sunday (December 29), partially cloudy skies and persistent foggy conditions during the early morning were reported. Today (December 30), the department predicts similar cloudy weather in some areas, coupled with fluctuating minimum temperatures.
