Baba Amte's granddaughter Sheetal Amte dies by suicide in Chandrapur

Chandrapur: Dr Sheetal Amte-Karajgi, social entrepreneur and CEO of Maharogi Sewa Samiti (MSS) Anandwan died of suicide on Monday. According to preliminary information, she injected poisonous injection which caused the death.

Recently, Dr Sheetal had issued a video message on social media in which she had razed some serious allegations on the trust management and Amte family.

She was trustee and CEO of MSS and her husband Gautam is still an operational head. According to reports Sheetal had some issues with her brother Kaustubh who returned to the MSS and hence issued the said video.

Sheetal earlier opposed allegations, saying the MSS wants to change its approaches of running to survive and filling these adjustments was being wrongly called ‘Corporatisation’. She additionally disproved all allegations of her high-handed administration at Anandwan.

Dr Sheetal’s father Dr Vikas Amte and his brother Dr Prakash Amte had issued a joint statement on November 24 denying all the allegations levelled by Sheetal about the irregularities in the Maharogi Sewa Samiti under which all charitable institutions and activities are carried out.

The Samiti is the parent trust which runs the Anandvan, Lok Biradari Project and other charitable projects. Dr Sheetal was the CEO of the trust, while her father and uncle are the secretary of the trust.

The Samiti had released a statement dated November 22 to media organisations denying all the allegations levelled by Dr Sheetal. The letter released on November 24, had signatures of Dr Vikas Amte, his wife Dr Bharati, Dr Prakash Amte and his wife Dr Mandakini Amte.

Baba Amte was conferred with Padma Vibhushan for his social work carried at Anandwan in Chandrapur, remarkably one for leprosy sufferers. Constructed in 1959 at Warora in Chandrapur, it is run by Maharogi Seva Samiti (MSS), a public charitable belief of which Vikas Amte is presently the secretary and Sheetal Karajgi was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
