Maharashtra: Decision on reopening of colleges to be announced soon

Colleges, along with all the other educational institutes in Maharashtra, were closed from March 2020 amid the spread of novel coronavirus

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is likely to reopen colleges and universities soon, said Higher and Technical Education Minister, Uday Samant, after meeting the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

He further added that mostly, in two days, final decision for the reopening of colleges will be taken. The colleges, along with all the other educational institutes in Maharashtra, were closed from March 2020 amid the spread of novel coronavirus and the nationwide lockdown imposed by the Centre.

Recently, Uday Samant met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. After which he made it clear that he will chair a meeting with the Vice Chancellors of non-agricultural universities around Maharashtra.

After the final decision regarding the reopening of colleges in the state is taken, the government will declare a list of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to all varsities in the view of COVID-19. Two weeks ago, Savitribai Phule Pune University spread the notice for reopening the colleges under the university. Later it was taken back owing to a notice declared by the state department.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has also permitted all cities to reopen the schools for students of classes 5 to 12, except for Mumbai. As of now, the classes for college and university students are being held online in the wake of COVID-19.
