12 January 2026: As campaigning for municipal civic polls in Maharashtra enters its final phase, the state government has announced a four-day Dry Day across 29 cities, including Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
The civic polls will be held on January 15, 2026, while vote counting will take place on January 16. Election campaigning will end on Tuesday, January 13, and from 6 pm the same day, all liquor shops in the concerned municipal areas will remain closed till the end of counting.
The Dry Day will apply in all 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. During this period, not only will liquor sales be stopped, but public consumption of alcohol will also be prohibited.
The government said the move is aimed at ensuring peace, safety and discipline during the election period. By restricting alcohol, the administration hopes to prevent disturbances, illegal activities and violence on polling days, and provide voters with a secure environment to exercise their rights.
Liquor vendors have already been informed about the restrictions, and police and local authorities will increase surveillance in public places. Officials warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the rules.
The administration believes that the four-day Dry Day from January 13 to January 16 will help conduct the civic elections in a calm, transparent and orderly manner across Maharashtra.
