Pune, 27th July 2026: Traffic on the Kalyan–Malshej Ghat stretch of National Highway 61 has been completely suspended after a portion of the road caved in near Karanjale village. The closure affects all vehicles travelling from Pune and Ahilyanagar towards Mumbai via the Malshej Ghat route.
To prevent traffic congestion and maintain law and order, the district administration has diverted vehicles to an alternative route. Motorists have been asked to travel via Alephata – Narayangaon – Khed – Chakan – Talegaon MIDC – Lonavala – Khopoli – Mumbai until the damaged section of the highway is restored.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued orders enforcing the complete closure of the affected stretch and appealed to commuters to cooperate with the administration.
He urged motorists heading towards Mumbai from Pune and Ahilyanagar to avoid the Malshej Ghat route and use the notified diversion to ensure safe and smooth travel.
