Pune, June 6: The southwest monsoon has entered Maharashtra, but Pune residents are still waiting for significant rainfall. While rain-bearing clouds have been gathering over the city almost every evening, showers have largely remained elusive, leaving citizens grappling with intense heat and humidity.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain over Pune and surrounding areas for the next three to four days. In view of the expected weather activity, the city has been placed under a Yellow Alert through the coming days.

Over the past few days, Pune has witnessed strong sunshine and uncomfortable weather conditions. On Saturday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of around 38°C, while the minimum temperature stood at 25.6°C. Residents continued to experience scorching afternoon conditions, although cloud cover increased around 4 pm, raising hopes of rainfall that ultimately did not materialise.

According to the IMD, temperatures are likely to ease slightly from Sunday onwards. The maximum temperature is expected to drop to around 36°C, while the minimum may fall to 24°C, offering some relief from the prevailing heat.

Meteorologists said skies are likely to remain mostly clear during the morning hours. However, cloud development is expected later in the day, with light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning activity likely during the afternoon and evening across Pune and nearby areas.
