Pune: As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha in Maharashtra.
The withdrawal line of Southwest Monsoon now passes through Nanded, Alibag in Maharashtra and through Diamond Harbour, Bangriposhi (Odisha), Sundargarh, Dhamtari and Ramagundam.
As per the Met department, conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some more parts of north Bay of Bengal, most parts of East and central India, some more parts of south and west India and central Arabian Sea till October 16.
For Maharashtra, IMD has predicted isolated rains in Konkan and central Maharashtra on October 15. Whereas dry weather conditions will prevail in Vidarbha and Marathwada on October 15.
For Pune, weather department has predicted that the city will experience partly cloudy skies on October 14, giving respite from rains. The day temperature for the day can go as high as 32 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature will be around 21 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, Pune recorded maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius and 20.8 degrees Celsius minimum temperature.
As on Monday, the southwest monsoon has been active over coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal Karnataka and Kerala. It has been subdued over Saurashtra and Kutch, Vidarbha and Rayalaseema.
For October 15, IMD has predicted heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning is very likely during the same time at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Onset of Northeast Monsoon
“Reversal of surface and low level winds from westerly to easterly has commenced over the southeastern parts of peninsular India and the easterly wind is likely to strengthen during the next few days. With the gradual withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon over the northern and central parts of India, conditions are becoming favourable for commencement of northeast monsoon around October 17 this year,” said an official statement by the IMD.
The weather department has further predicted scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning over parts of southern peninsular India till October 19.
