Mumbai: Railway police seize 400 e-tickets worth Rs 6.43 lakh; three arrested

The anti-tout squad has arrested three persons and seized 400 e-tickets from them in the last month of 2020.

Mumbai: The continuous action of the Mumbai Division of Central Railway (CR) against pedlars over the last few months seems to be bearing fruit. In its latest campaign against touts, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) confiscated 400 e-tickets worth Rs 6.43 lakh after raiding different spots in Maharashtra, a Central Railway (CR) official said on Wednesday.

In its continued efforts to make available reserved tickets to bonafide passengers, Anti Tout Squad, Mumbai Division, Central Railway with the help of RPF (Railway Protection Force) conducted intensive checking drives against unauthorized ticket vendors.

The anti-tout squad has arrested three persons and seized 400 e-tickets from them in the last month of 2020.

A CR spokesperson stated that a check was conducted by the ATS on December 12 which led to the confiscation of 68 e-tickets accounting Rs 62,545. Similar kind of search in the second week of December led to the seizure of 273 e-tickets worth Rs 4,91,150 and 59 e-tickets worth Rs 89,832. All the suspects were handed over to the Railway Protection Force for further prosecution.

The Railway Force has developed anti-tout flying squads that have been directing raids around multiple railway stations in Maharashtra and have been utilising CCTV camera footage to identify touts. In its campaign against touts, the Central Railway RPF team also conduct raids based on the data established from the cyber cell and other inputs, at different locations.
