Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced compensation for rehabilitation of victims injured in a Naxal attack, man-made disasters like terrorist activity, bomb blasts or riots. The government was considering a plan for rehabilitation for the victims injured in such attacks. The rates and criteria for assistance to be given to the victims have been decided. 

In recent times there were many incidents of Naxal attacks where police personnel and some villagers lost their lives. The common people lost their lives despite not having any connection with the activity. There are also some riots, where some people lost their lives or were injured. There was no provision of assistance from the government for these victims or their families to rehabilitate them. 

Considering all the facts, the Revenue Department has decided to rehabilitate them and frame a regulation for assistance. The government has set eligibility criteria for getting the assistance. During such incidents, if a person loses a hand, leg, eye or other part and become handicapped then the government will give financial aid up to Rs 2 lakh, depending on the percentage of the loss. 

The injured person will get Rs 3,000 for first three days if he is taking treatment in the govt hospital and the State will give Rs 1,000 per day for next 14 days if the victim remains in hospital for these days.  

The victim has to submit a disability certificate from the government hospital. He also has to prove that he was injured in the man-made disaster. For getting medical assistance during his stay in the hospital, the person has to produce a certificate of admission from the medical officer of the hospital. The victim should not be involved in the man-made disaster as his name should not be in the First Information Report (FIR) prepared by the police. There should not any such case registered against him in any police station, else he will not be eligible for financial aid. 

After scrutinising all the papers and going through the case, the district collector will distribute the financial assistance to the victim or his family.
