Solapur to get IT park, 5,000 jobs expected

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: An ambitious information technology (IT) park has been planned to be set up in Solapur, which is expected to generate about 5,000 jobs.

Mahesh Kothe, Director, Solapur Smart City Project and ex-mayor, on Friday told media persons that the  IT park will come up over 32 acres at Dongaon road, located around 3 km from Solapur city.

“Brain drain from Solapur to Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and even abroad inspired me to undertake this initiative. I am confident that low rents, zero traffic congestion and world-class facilities will attract IT companies to Solapur. Tier 2 and 3 cities will fulfil IT park demand in the future.”

Deepak Shikarpur, who is a major contributor in the development of the blueprint of Hinjawadi IT park, said that Solapur IT park plan has been conceived based on the errors noticed during the development of Hinjawadi IT park.

Vivek Dixit, architect, said that the facility will house an international school, world class hospital, mall and a five-star hotel to meet the aspirations of employees. First meeting with CEOs of Pune-based IT firms will be conducted at MCCIA, Pune on December 19.
