PUNE: With an aim to empower the university’s sub-centre in Nashik, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is all set to start a two-year MBA programme in Nashik in the subjects of winery, textile, Paithani industry, etc.
The course will give the students an opportunity to study an up-to-date MBA curriculum while getting a degree from the university.
The course will presently be held at a building of an old municipality school in Nashik, which was shut. It has been made available to SPPU on rental basis by Nashik Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Munde.
The capacity of the course is 30 seats, and the admission process for the same has already been carried out. SPPU has provided staff for the course, who will be paid through the university funds.
While it’s a two-year course, new subjects will be adapted into it considering the local needs. As Nashik is known for grape production, the students will be able to take up the subject of winery.
Also, MBA in textile has been made available considering the textile industry in Malegaon, and those interested will also be able to study the saree industry in Paithan.
“The MBA programme offered by the university would be different from the one offered by other institutions. The curriculum has been designed to make sure that the students get employment opportunities once they are out of the programme,” Dr Prafulla Pawar, Dean of Faculty, said.
SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar said, “We have taken this step in order to empower our sub-centre in Nashik. It has been proposed that the MBA course would be designed in such a way that it will promote the local entrepreneurship. The university will be providing full support to this goal.”
