Vidhan Sabhan 2019: Rebel Trupti Sawant expelled from Shiv Sena

ST CORRESPONDENT

MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena on Thursday expelled rebel Trupti Sawant from the party for contesting as an independent against Shiv Sena’s official candidate from Bandra (E) seat.

The Shiv Sena had denied ticket to Sawant, wife of late Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Sawant (Bala) from Bandra and fielded Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar from the seat irking Trupti who rebelled and filed her nomination as an independent candidate.

Trupti was elected as an MLA from Bandra (East). She was given ticket by Sena after the death of her husband Prakash Sawant. Trupti had defeated then Congress leader and former CM Narayan Rane in a by-election in 2015. After filing a nomination as an independent candidate, Shiv Sena leaders tried to convince her to withdraw her nomination, but she did not do so. Finally, the party decided to take action against her.

Trupti said that the party has not communicated with her regarding the expulsion officially. “I have already resigned from the party before filing my nomination,” she said.
