Pune: A 45-year-old man, Ankush Dange, allegedly died by suicide in a lodge near Pune Station following alleged mental harassment by a female lawyer with whom he was reportedly in an extramarital relationship.
The Bundgarden Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the 42-year-old female lawyer, a resident of Madha Taluka, based on a complaint filed by Dange’s wife. The incident took place on January 9, 2025, at Homeland Lodge.
According to the police, the lawyer pressured Dange to leave his wife and daughter, threatening him to commit suicide if he refused. She further demanded that he arrange the marriage of his son with her daughter, repay ₹30 lakh borrowed from her for the beautification of his bar and banquet hall, or transfer a flat in Suyash to her name.
The affair allegedly began in October 2024, when Dange and the lawyer met professionally, which later developed into a personal relationship. The lawyer’s husband, who is a judge, was reportedly aware of the affair.
On January 9, the lawyer summoned Dange to Homeland Lodge, where she allegedly repeated her demands. Feeling trapped, Dange reportedly took his own life by hanging himself in her presence.
The police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. PSI Ganesh Chavan is leading the investigation into the matter.
