Pune: A man was brutally assaulted and later succumbed to his injuries after proposing marriage to a woman in the Gokhalenagar area. The Chatuhshrungi police have booked four individuals in connection with the case and arrested two of them.

The incident took place on Saturday (February 1) night when Dilip Yellappa Alakunte (45), a resident of Janata Vasahat, Janwadi, approached Ramji Nilu Rathod (50), a daily wage laborer, with a proposal to marry his daughter.

Rathod strongly objected, citing the significant age gap between Dilip and his daughter. The discussion quickly escalated into an argument, during which Rathod verbally abused and attacked Dilip.

Soon, Rathod’s wife Anusaya (45) and son Karan (19) joined him in brutally assaulting the victim. Dilip was severely injured in the attack and was later admitted to Sassoon Hospital for treatment.

Initially, the police registered a case of attempted murder, but when Dilip succumbed to his injuries on Sunday (February 2) morning, the charge was upgraded to murder.

Chatuhshrungi Police have arrested Ramji Rathod and his wife Anusaya, while their son Karan and an unidentified fourth accused are still under investigation.

Senior Inspector Vijayanand Patil of Chatuhshrungi Police Station confirmed the arrests, and Assistant Inspector Dadaraje Pawar is leading the investigation.
