The Mathura district administration has intervened to assist a financially distressed family from Bhatain village in the Kosi Kalan region after its request for a waiver of school fees for its children surfaced on social media during the Kanwar Yatra. At around 3 pm on Wednesday, the District Magistrate took note of the issue and instructed officials to launch an immediate investigation and extend necessary support to the family.

In line with the directive, a joint team including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Chhata and the Basic Education Officer visited Bhatain village to evaluate the family’s situation. Officials discovered that Bharat, who had earlier been employed in a job, is now operating a small grocery shop because of financial hardship. His wife supplements the family income by doing tailoring work.

The couple has four children. Their eldest daughter is enrolled at Nagar Palika Inter College, where no tuition fees are required. The other three children study at Adarsh Vidya Mandir in Kosi Kalan. Although the school had already exempted one child’s fees, the administration stepped in and ensured that the fees for the remaining two children were also waived.

The children were also provided with two sets of school uniforms each, along with books, school bags and other educational supplies. Officials further found that the family’s house had been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, with Rs 2.5 lakh sanctioned. The first instalment of Rs 1 lakh has already been released and construction is underway.

The SDM has personally assumed responsibility for overseeing the children’s education and providing support whenever needed.
