Pune: A speeding motorcyclist tragically lost his life after colliding with an electric pole on the Katraj-Kondhwa bridge on Tuesday (August 6) afternoon. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM and has been recorded by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

The deceased has been identified as Ninad Premkumar Talekar, a 25-year-old resident of Sambhajinagar, Dhankawadi. Ninad was aspiring for a bright career in medical education.

According to the police report, Ninad was traveling along the Katraj-Kondhwa road when he first struck a pedestrian. Following this, he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into an electric pole.

The force of the impact caused Ninad to fall heavily onto the road, resulting in his immediate death. The pedestrian he hit suffered a fractured hand. Notably, Ninad was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, leading to a severe head injury that proved fatal.

The Katraj-Kondhwa road has become a nightmare for drivers due to numerous potholes, resulting in traffic congestion and frequent minor accidents.

Waterlogging from nearby areas exacerbates the issue, creating hazardous driving conditions. Residents and drivers are demanding immediate action from the municipality to fill the potholes and provide a more durable solution.

The Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project is facing delays despite the allocation of ₹139.83 crores by the state government for land acquisition. The funds were deposited into the Pune Municipal Corporation's treasury on July 1st, but no land has been acquired yet.

The Municipal Corporation has only compiled a list of required land acquisitions without preparing actual proposals, leading to a delay of three to four months in the process.
