Pune: MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) has announced the launch of the "Abhay Yojana 2024," aimed at providing financial relief to 3.8 million electricity consumers whose connections were permanently disconnected due to unpaid bills.

Starting September 1, the scheme will waive a total of ₹1,788 crores in interest and late fees on overdue bills, encouraging customers to clear their dues and reconnect their electricity supply.

In light of a Supreme Court ruling that mandates property owners, buyers, or occupants to pay outstanding electricity bills, MSEDCL has introduced this scheme as an alternative to direct legal action.

MSEDCL has urged consumers to utilize this opportunity to settle their debts and avoid further complications.

The scheme applies to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers whose connections were permanently disconnected as of March 31, 2024, due to outstanding bills. Agricultural consumers are not eligible for this scheme.

Running from September 1 to November 30, 2024, the scheme allows consumers to pay 30% of the principal amount upfront, with the remaining 70% payable in six installments.

Those who clear their dues in a lump sum will benefit from a 10% discount for low-tension consumers and a 5% discount for high-tension industrial and commercial consumers.

MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, following directives from Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has encouraged consumers to take advantage of this scheme to avoid potential legal action.

Customer Access to the Scheme

Consumers can access the Abhay Yojana online via the MSEDCL website, mobile app, or toll-free numbers. Upon payment, customers can reconnect their electricity supply and even apply for a new connection at the same address with the required documentation
