Pune: In an effort to secure improved living conditions for those displaced by the Mulshi Dam, key social activists from the region formed the Mulshi Dam Coordination Committee.

The committee met with Manohar Mhatre, head of Tata Power’s CSR department, at the company’s Lonavala office to submit a detailed memorandum listing their demands.

During the meeting, various issues were discussed, and several key demands were prioritized. The delegation, consisting of senior local leaders such as Nandusheth Valanj, NCP Taluka President Ankush More, and other notable figures like Ganpat Mengade, Milind Valanj, and Laxman Hundare, highlighted urgent concerns, including village expansion, road construction, and access to basic services.

One of the primary demands is the construction of 5 kilometers of roads using CSR funds, as agreed upon in prior agreements.

Additionally, the group emphasized the need for educational and healthcare facilities, along with employment opportunities for the youth of the dam-affected area. Infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Mulshi-Waghwadi bridge and other key roadways, were also part of the memorandum.

The committee also pressed for the provision of irrigation water for farmers in the region and called on Tata Power to launch a boat service from Mulshi to Waghwadi, either directly or through a lease arrangement. The meeting was deemed positive, with commitments to address the highlighted concerns.

Recently, Tata Chemicals Community Development arm, Tata Chemicals Society of Rural Development (TCSRD), in partnership with the NGO 'Light of Life Trust' (LOLT) established a Livelihood and Skill Training Center in Mulshi, Pune.

This center is set to benefit around 430 individuals from 10 villages around the Tata Chemicals Innovation Center during the fiscal year 2024-25.
