Pune: Residents of Lavale village in Mulshi Taluka have raised concerns about pollution caused by the Pune Star AAC Block Company, which has been operating a cement brick manufacturing unit for the past two years. The villagers have submitted a written complaint to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, citing air, water, and noise pollution from the factory.

According to the complaint, the factory’s operations and transportation of heavy raw materials through the narrow, unpaved roads of the village pose a significant threat to public safety. The frequent movement of 20 to 25-ton trucks raises the risk of accidents, including vehicle overturning, which could endanger residents.

Villagers have also reported that dust, smoke, and contaminated water from the factory have affected local vegetation and crops. They claim that thick layers of cement dust settle on trees and farmland, leading to environmental degradation. Additionally, loud noises from the factory disrupt the peace of the village.

Company Denies Allegations

Responding to the allegations, company directors Rahul Kumavat and Dinesh Kumavat refuted the claims, stating, "Our company has obtained all necessary approvals from the Pollution Control Board and the Environmental Department. The so-called ‘smoke’ seen by villagers is actually steam from the brick-making process and does not cause pollution."

Gram Panchayat officer Vitthal Sakore confirmed that the local governing body had taken note of the repeated complaints from villagers. He stated, "The Gram Panchayat formally reported the issue to the Pollution Control Board, which has since conducted an inspection of the company."
