Mumbai-Pune Expressway Heist Thwarted: Baner Police Arrest Gang Before Robbery

The incident took place around 3:30 AM on Sunday (March 16) near Amar Tech Park on the Balewadi service road of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Pune: A major robbery attempt on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was foiled by the Baner police after they arrested six individuals who had gathered to loot travelers on the expressway's service road in Balewadi. The suspects were armed with swords, sickles, and other dangerous weapons, confirming that they were preparing for a highway robbery.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Soham Siddheshwar Waghmare (20), Kaif Sattar Sheikh (19), Natha Shahaji Waghmare (18), Tahir Gulab Multan (19), Sumit Bhimrao Gaikwad (19), and Tukaram Pandurang Uchke (19). All of them are residents of Balewadi, Mahalunge, and Mhatobanagar.

Police Crack Down on Suspicious Activity

According to police reports, the incident took place around 3:30 AM on Sunday (March 16) near Amar Tech on the Balewadi service road of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. A police patrol unit from Baner Police Station was conducting a routine night check when they noticed a group of people gathered in the dark on the service road.

Upon sensing suspicious activity, the police team strategically surrounded the suspects and apprehended them before they could execute their plan. A search revealed that the suspects were carrying swords, sickles, chili powder, rope bundles, and adhesive tape, all of which were confiscated.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that they had gathered to carry out a planned robbery on travelers using the service road. They intended to stop vehicles, threaten passengers, and loot them using weapons and other intimidating tactics.
