A number of the world's elderly are recovering from the novel coronavirus pandemic giving humanity hope and a reason to smile. Adding to the list of people overcoming the infection is the 106-year-old Mukhtar Ahmed, a Nawabganj resident, Delhi who has become the nation's oldest to recover. The elderly man was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital on April 14, after he had contracted the infection from his son.
Ahmed got discharged and returned home on May 1, after successfully battling the deadly disease. His son was still being treated, while Ahmed was discharged and advised that he practice social distance from his family.
Older people, and those with pre-existing medical conditions, are more likely to develop severe symptoms of coronavirus. Ahmed's recovery has left doctors thrilled.
"Whenever a patient recovers, it is a proud moment for us. However, due to Ahmed's age, is inspiring news for all of us," Dr BL Sherwal, the Medical Director of the hospital, told ANI.
The hospital's medical staff saw his stern determination to fight against the virus and come out of it, battling all odds. Dr Sherwal added that the "will" of a person is the most important thing in the fight against coronavirus. Further saying that he has set an example, that even people over a hundred years of age can fight the virus.

What is called a miracle cure by the medical community; a couple from Kerala were the oldest people in the country to have recovered from COVID-19. Thomas, 93, and his wife Mariyamma, 88 returned home on after undergoing treatment for 23 days at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.
The couple were among the initial few cases of COVID-19 in India.
Medical professionals celebrated the release of the older couple as both suffer from old-age health problems, and the husband has specific underlying conditions - hypertension and diabetes - that in many cases have proved fatal worldwide.
Hospital officials put them at a glass partition in the ICU next to one another.
There have been a total of 1,895 official COVID-19-related fatalities since the pandemic hit India, while 16,867 patients have recovered from the illness and have been discharged from hospital.
