Protestors Storm Delhi to Seek CEC Resignation, CJP leaders detained

National capital turned into fortress on Saturday as police launched sweeping crackdown on protestors seeking CEC Gyanesh Kumar resignation

Train cancellations, metro closures, an internet shutdown, barricades and the deployment of 58,000 police personnel could not prevent thousands of protesters from reaching Delhi to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged voter irregularities.

Following the Education Minister’s resignation over the NEET paper leak controversy, the demand for the CEC’s resignation has also gained attention among Gen Z.

The CJP has called the proposed demonstration against the CEC over allegations of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes relating to Form 6, used for voter registration.

Thousands of protestors have gathered in New Delhi on call of CJP.

The national capital was turned into a fortress on Saturday as police launched a sweeping crackdown, detaining CJP leader, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and nearly 500 protesters.

Unreal videos coming from New Delhi, where protestors can be seen being detained by Delhi police, jumping barricades and resisting the police force.

Video of actor Imran Khan being detained by Mumbai Police from August Kranti Maidan are circulating on social media for joining demonstrations against the CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Several other protestors were also detained by the Mumbai Police.

Opposition members have called detention of protestors as a 'cowardly act'.

Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut termed the protests a revolt by the people, stressing that the government cannot stop them.

“This is the beginning of the end of the Modi government. It will breathe its last in March-April (2027),” said the Rajya Sabha member. He added that any strong leader would have faced the situation and understood the demands of the youth and the Opposition.
