With 26,382 new COVID-19 cases, India’s COVID-19 total cases rise to 99,32,548 on Wednesday. With 387 new deaths, the tally mounts to 1,44,096 while the total active cases now stand at 3,32,002.

On the other side, total discharged cases gone over 94,56,449 with 33,813 new discharges in the last 24 hours. Over 3.32 lakh people in India have recovered since the beginning of the outbreak. India, which reported its first case on January 30 is the second worst-hit nation in the world by the pandemic after the United States.

India's worst COVID-19-affected state Maharashtra, added 3,442 new cases, with the total number of infected people now over 18.86 lakh. The state also reported 70 fatalities, which took the death count to 48,339. Maharashtra is followed by four states in terms of the COVID-19 case count - Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 15,66,46,280 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to December 15 with 10,85,625 samples being tested on Tuesday.

The Union Health Ministry said that India has among the highest COVID-19 recovery rates around the world for countries with high caseloads, with over 95 per cent having recovered from the contagion.
