India's foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday that the event in New Delhi where former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to speak is being organised by a private organisation and that the Indian government is not involved in it.

Bangladesh had requested New Delhi to clarify its position on Hasina’s planned virtual speech at the August 5 event organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia, which commemorates the second anniversary of the student-led uprising that overthrew her government.

Meanwhile, just hours before Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to deliver a virtual address from India, Bangladesh cautioned media outlets against broadcasting or promoting her speech, citing an order from a tribunal.

India, for its part, emphasised that the event is a private media initiative and does not have any official government support.

She is scheduled to deliver a virtual address to the people of Bangladesh at 6 p.m. IST.

The 78-year-old is scheduled to make her first public appearance on Wednesday via videolink since leaving Dhaka, alongside her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and other speakers.
