Mumbai:  Maharashtra Tourism and Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) Minister Jaykumar Rawal has said he will oppose Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film 'Padmaavat'.

The minister said the movie depicts 'distorted history'. He has appealed people to not watch the movie. He also said all Rajputs are ready to compensate Bhansali for not releasing the movie. 

The movie, whose title was changed from 'Padmavati' to 'Padmaavat', is scheduled to be released on January 25. The movie — featuring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor — is based on Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khilji's lust for Chittor's queen Rani Padmini, setting off protests by the Rajput outfits.

"This is not a question of opposing or supporting it. If the Censor Board has passed it with some cuts, I want to see what the cuts are. Though the court had cleared the movie and State government is allowed to release the movie, I will personally oppose the movie. Me and my family will not watch it," said Rawal, who is a Rajput hailing from Dondaicha in Dhule district.

"We Rajputs will never accept distortion of history. In case of Padmavati it wont be tolerated as we respect Padmavati. Queen Padmavati is an ideal lady for us and our next generation," he explained.

Bollywood also have to produce pictures that will inspire the youth of India, he said. The minister also praised Salman Khan for 'Tiger Zinda Hai'. Such movies are inspiring the youth, he added.
