Paytm taken off Google Playstore over policy violations: Twitter reactions

Earlier today, the digital payment app Paytm was pulled off Google Playstore, much to the confusion of its users. The move was after the app was found allowing customers to indulge in online sports betting games. The search giant had also recently released its guidelines on gambling policies in the country. These policies were added to protect its users from potential harm. 

And while other apps such as Paytm money -- wealth management app, Paytm for Business and Paytm Insider -- movie ticketing application, continue to be available on Google Playstore, this is the first time Paytm's main app was removed for its users. 

The search giant also wrote on its blog saying, "We have the same goals for our gambling policy. We don't allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads the consumer to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies."

Google India also mentioned that there could be more actions in the future in case these policies are not followed. "And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts. Our policies are applied and enforced on all developers consistently," said the search giant.
