Putin Arrives in India for First Visit Since Ukraine War; PM Modi Welcomes With Bhagavad Gita

23rd India-Russia Annual Summit and Ceremonial Events Mark Russian President’s Two-Day Visit; Expected to address media

New Delhi, 5th December 2025: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India on Thursday evening for a two-day visit. The trip marks his first visit to India since the start of the war in Ukraine, which is attracting global attention due to ongoing peace efforts involving former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed President Putin at the Air Force Station Palam. The Russian leader began his visit with a private dinner at the Prime Minister’s official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

On Friday, President Putin will receive a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by a visit to Rajghat to lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial. The 23rd India-Russia annual summit will then be held at Hyderabad House, after which both leaders are expected to address the media.

During the visit, PM Modi presented a Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita to President Putin, saying that its teachings inspire millions around the world.

This visit highlights India’s continued engagement with Russia amid global geopolitical developments, and Pune residents are closely following the updates as the summit unfolds.
