Nylon Kite String Menace: Crime Branch Conducts Raids, Arrests Two, Spools Seized

Crime Branch apprehended an individual selling nylon kite strings in the Munjaba Vasti area of Vishrantwadi. Spools of nylon strings were seized during the raid.

Pune: The use of nylon kite strings, banned due to the severe injuries they cause to both citizens and birds during kite flying during Sankranti, continues despite restrictions. In a crackdown by the Crime Branch, two individuals involved in the clandestine sale of nylon kite strings were apprehended. Raids in the Bibwewadi and Dhanori areas led to the seizure of multiple spools of nylon strings.

First Operation: Bibwewadi

Police constable Sumit Takpere received a tip-off about an individual selling nylon kite strings in the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Nagar area of Bibwewadi. Acting swiftly, the police raided the location and seized 50 spools of nylon kite string. The total value of the seized strings is estimated at ₹10,000.

A case was registered against a youth from Upper Indiranagar under the Environment Protection Act and for defying government orders. Police Havaldar Angre is investigating the case.

Second Operation: Vishrantwadi

In a separate operation, the Crime Branch apprehended an individual selling nylon kite strings in the Munjaba Vasti area of Vishrantwadi. Spools of nylon strings were seized during the raid. A case was filed against the accused based on a complaint lodged by Crime Branch Unit 4 officer Nagesh Kunwar. Police Havaldar Kendre is handling the investigation.

Authorities have reiterated the dangers of nylon kite strings, urging the public to report illegal sales. The string, known for its sharpness and durability, has been linked to severe injuries and poses a significant environmental hazard.
