Pune: The Education Department of the Zilla Parishad has released a list of 13 unauthorized schools operating in Pune and surrounding areas. Parents have been advised not to admit their children to these institutions. Legal action has been warned against these schools if they continue operations without proper approval, stated Primary Education Officer Sanjay Naikade during a press briefing on January 8.

With the new academic year’s admission process underway, Naikade highlighted the increasing preference among parents for private English-medium schools. However, due to a lack of awareness about the schools’ authorization status, many parents end up enrolling their children in unapproved institutions, which leads to complications when the schools face legal action.

To address this, the department has issued a list of unauthorized schools and urged parents to verify key details such as the school’s approval, initial recognition, UDISE code, and self-certification before admission.

Legal Consequences for Unauthorized Schools

Naikade added, “Unauthorized schools that continue to operate will face a daily fine of ₹10,000, and legal action will be taken against them for misleading parents. These schools must immediately cease operations. Schools that have submitted relocation proposals or intent letters are required to obtain approval before the start of the academic year.”

Guidance Centers for Parents

To assist parents, dedicated guidance cells will be established in areas including Haveli, Mulshi, Pune Municipal Corporation, and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Specific officials have been assigned to address concerns and provide accurate information about schools in these regions.

Immediate Suspension of Admissions

The 13 schools listed by the department have been instructed to immediately stop admitting students and to halt any advertising activities. Legal action will be initiated against schools that fail to comply.
