Pune: Following the Lok Sabha election results, Union Minister Amit Shah's visit has made it clear that the BJP is determined to avoid any risks in the upcoming state assembly elections.

During his stay in Pune, Shah reviewed the performance of current MLAs with key state leaders and party officials. Discussions about replacing inactive MLAs with new faces were prevalent at the convention venue.

Despite being part of the grand alliance, the BJP aims to contest more seats in the state assembly elections, driven by the need to boost the morale of party workers.

Shah, who arrived in Pune on Saturday (July 20) night, reviewed the state situation with state general secretaries before and after the convention and held a core committee meeting.

It was conveyed to Shah that the current atmosphere in the state is not very favorable for the BJP, with workers and officials in a state of confusion. In his speech, Shah indicated that new faces might be considered for the state assembly elections.

Discussions focused on the reasons behind the decreased vote margins in areas where the BJP had performed well in the 2019 elections. Despite the strength of the organization and past representatives, the party had lagged.

Shah was asked to consider replacing MLAs with little contact with citizens and inactive on social media with new candidates for the assembly. To avoid repeating the mistakes of the Lok Sabha elections, where the party faced dissatisfaction for retaining certain candidates, the BJP might deny nominations to underperforming MLAs with poor public outreach.
