Pune: The 23rd Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) concluded with the announcement of awards, recognizing excellence in international and Marathi cinema. The Norwegian film ‘Armand,’ directed by Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel, won the Maharashtra Government’s ‘Prabhat’ Award for Best International Film, receiving a cash prize of ₹10 lakh.
In the Marathi cinema category, the film ‘Sangala,’ directed by Raoba Gajmal, won the Sant Tukaram Award for Best International Marathi Film, along with a cash prize of ₹5 lakh.
The closing ceremony was attended by Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Dr. Dhananjay Savalakar (Joint Managing Director of Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari), Festival Director Dr. Jabbar Patel, Pune Film Foundation Trustee Satish Alekar, and Meghraj Rajebhosale (President, All India Marathi Film Corporation), along with members of the international jury and film selection committee.
During the event, Dr. Rajendra Bhosale announced that a dedicated space would be allocated for the PIFF office, marking an important step for the festival’s future growth.
Festival Director Dr. Jabbar Patel stated, “This year, we showcased 150 films from 81 countries. The festival featured three world premieres and 20 Indian premieres, along with insightful workshops for film enthusiasts.”
The event was hosted by Shreya Bugde and Kshitij Date, adding a lively touch to the grand finale.
Marathi Cinema Recognized at PIFF
PIFF 2025 also celebrated excellence in Marathi cinema with prestigious awards:
Best International Marathi Film (‘Sant Tukaram’ Award, ₹5 lakh): ‘Sangala’ (Directed by Raoba Gajmal)
Best Director (₹25,000): Gajendra Ahire for ‘Snow Flower’
Best Actor (₹25,000): Anil Dabhade for ‘Sangala’
Best Actress (₹25,000): Chhaya Kadam for ‘Snow Flower’
Best Cinematographer (₹25,000): Ameya Chavan for ‘Ravsaheb’
