Pune: In a significant step towards urban wildlife conservation, the 'Save the Sparrow' initiative was celebrated at Roseland Residency, Pimple Saudagar, on Sparrow Day. The campaign, aimed at increasing the dwindling sparrow population, saw the distribution of artificial nests and food boxes across 27 housing societies in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The initiative was led by former corporator Nana Kate, along with Shatrughna Kate, Nirmala Kute, Chandan Chaurasia (campaign head), Vinod Patil, and key members of Roseland Residency, including President Sandeep Thenge, Vice President Vikram Shinde, Surendra Jain, and Dhaval Prajapati. Noted singer Deepal Dave was also present.

Chandan Chaurasia, head of the 'Save the Sparrow' campaign, emphasized the importance of providing safe habitats for sparrows, stating, "The artificial nests we are distributing are designed to replicate the sparrow's natural habitat, encouraging them to settle and thrive. This initiative plays a crucial role in increasing their population in urban areas."

Sandeep Thenge highlighted the urgency of the initiative, saying, "Sparrows are rapidly disappearing from cities, but by installing nests and food boxes, we can create a conducive environment for their survival. Protecting sparrows is not just about birds; it’s about preserving ecological balance for future generations."

As part of the drive, artificial nests and food boxes were distributed across 27 residential societies in Pimpri-Chinchwad, including Happy Thought, Sai Dream, Roseland Residency 1, 2 & 3, Dwarkadhish Garden, Liorbit, Stanza, Ashtavinayak Residency, Royal My Steek, Surabhi, Shivam, Mithilanagari, La Vie Da Loca, Z3 Alpha Beta, Sanskriti Phase 3, Ishan Tower, Clover Dell A, Panorama Apartment, Nisarg Nirman, Kumar Vinayak King, Kunal Icon, Ganesh Residency, Sai Angan, Orange Province, Rose Valley, and Treasure Bhakti.

The program was hosted by Shraddha Deshmukh and Vikram Shinde, while Sandeep Thenge delivered the vote of thanks.
