Pune: A love affair involving a first cousin turned fatal when a man allegedly killed his cousin in Dighi on Thursday (December 5) evening.
The Anti-Extortion Unit arrested Gautam Ramanand Yadav, alias Rai, in connection with the murder of Sachin Yadav. A minor who participated in the crime was also detained by the police.
According to officials, Sachin Yadav had been romantically involved with his cousin sister for over a year and a half, a relationship strongly opposed by their families.
The cousin had moved out of her family home and started residing near Sachin’s rented room in Dighi, which escalated tensions within the family.
On Thursday, at approximately 5:30 PM, Gautam, accompanied by a minor accomplice, went to Sachin’s room in Dighi.
An argument broke out, and Gautam attacked Sachin with a machete, leaving him fatally injured. Gautam and the minor fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The Anti-Extortion Unit, led by Inspector Devendra Chavan, tracked Gautam down to Kala Khadak, while the minor was apprehended in Maval. Both have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
