Pune: In a tragic development, six suicides were reported within a single day across different parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad, raising alarms over growing mental health concerns and socio-economic stressors in the region.

The first incident took place in Chakan, where 28-year-old Gaurav Dnyaneshwar Agam ended his life by hanging himself with a scarf inside his home at approximately 10:30 AM on January 27.

In another case, 31-year-old Prasad Sanjay Avchat, a resident of Punawale, was found dead in a similar manner at around 4:30 PM. The cause of his suicide remains unknown.

A third case was reported in Bhosari, where Vikas Ramdas Murgund (35) was discovered hanging in his residence around noon. In yet another tragic incident, Manappa Somalya Chavan (52), a resident of Shindevasti in Nere, Mulshi Taluka, was found hanging from a lemon tree near his house at approximately 9:45 AM.

Meanwhile, in Thergaon’s Dattanagar, Navnath Bhagwan Pawar (46) took his life by hanging himself with a bedsheet inside his bedroom at around 12:45 AM. The exact reason behind his death remains unclear, and authorities have sent his viscera for forensic examination.

The sixth reported suicide occurred at midnight in Old Sangvi, where 36-year-old Suvarna Shriram Pawar was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her home. Sangvi police have launched an investigation into the case.

Mental Health Crisis and Societal Concerns

The rising incidence of suicides in both urban and semi-urban areas has sparked widespread concern among mental health professionals and law enforcement agencies. Experts attribute the increasing trend to various factors, including financial distress, domestic disputes, stress, and underlying mental health conditions.

The growing number of suicide cases across different age groups—from young individuals to senior citizens—highlights an urgent need for mental health awareness, counseling services, and preventive measures.
