Pune: MP Supriya Sule has raised concerns regarding the inadequacy of funds provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) due to the rising costs in the construction sector. She has called for an increase in the amount allocated to beneficiaries in rural and urban areas.

Sule has also highlighted that the Maharashtra government lacks sufficient funds for the Awas Yojana implementation, resulting in many eligible beneficiaries being left out.

In a letter to Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Sule demanded that the central government take over the scheme to ensure its effective implementation.

Under the current PMAY provisions, ₹1.5 lakhs is allocated to rural areas and ₹2.5 lakhs to urban areas, which Sule argues is insufficient due to the increased construction costs.

She pointed out that there is a demand from beneficiaries to raise the rural allocation to at least ₹3 lakhs. With the number of eligible citizens rising, she emphasized the need for a review and proportional increase in funds by the central government.

Additionally, Sule mentioned that the Maharashtra government has started the Modi Awas Yojana for other backward classes but lacks sufficient funds to support it.

In her letter, Sule urged the central government to either provide adequate funds after discussions with the Maharashtra Chief Minister or take the scheme under its control.

She also addressed the issue of the daily wage of ₹50 given to unskilled laborers under the MGNREGA scheme, deeming it insufficient amidst rising inflation.

Sule called for an increase in this amount and emphasized the need for proper action to ensure the benefits of these schemes reach more families.
