PMC Collects ₹2,210 Crore Property Tax: Nagar Road-Wadgaon Sheri Leads in Revenue

Among PMC’s 15 ward offices, Hadapsar-Mundhwa has the highest number of properties at 1,16,607, followed by Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar (1,02,782) and Nagar Road-Wadgaon Sheri (1,00,912).

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected ₹2,210 crore in property tax so far in the 2024-25 financial year, with the Nagar Road-Wadgaon Sheri area contributing the highest amount at ₹333.65 crore. Meanwhile, the Bhawani Peth division recorded the lowest tax collection at ₹43.68 crore.

As property tax remains a key revenue source for PMC, the collected funds are utilized for city development, including road construction, flyovers, underground passages, water supply networks, and sewage systems. Interestingly, tax collections are significantly higher in Pune’s suburban areas compared to the city center, and accordingly, suburban development projects receive a greater share of the municipal budget.

Over 14 Lakh Taxable Properties, But Many Defaulters

PMC’s jurisdiction, including newly merged villages, comprises 14 lakh taxable properties. However, while 9 lakh property owners have regularly paid their dues, a large number of defaulters remain, contributing to an outstanding backlog.

Hadapsar-Mundhwa Leads in Property Count

Among PMC’s 15 ward offices, Hadapsar-Mundhwa has the highest number of properties at 1,16,607, followed by Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar (1,02,782) and Nagar Road-Wadgaon Sheri (1,00,912).

The municipal budget is strategically allocated based on tax collections and city development needs. While central Pune sees infrastructure upgrades, suburban areas—where tax collection is higher—receive substantial funds for roads, flyovers, and essential utilities.
