Ward reservations for SC, ST, OBC and women in Pune will be finalized by October 10.
Final ward boundaries to be announced by the first week of October after reviewing objections.
PMC elections likely in January 2026, with a new mayor by February.
Pune, 27 September 2025: The long-delayed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections have moved a step closer as the final ward boundaries are set to be announced in the first week of October, followed by the declaration of reserved wards by October 10.
These reservations will determine which wards are set aside for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and women candidates, giving political parties and aspirants a clearer picture of their contesting options.
PMC elections have been on hold for over three years, but a Supreme Court directive has now paved the way for the process to resume. Voting is expected to take place in January 2026, with results to be declared by the end of the month and the new mayor elected in February.
Under the new structure, Pune will have 41 wards, 40 with four members each and one with five members, electing a total of 165 corporators. The draft ward plan previously received 5,922 objections and suggestions, with hearings conducted by authorized officer V. Radha. After considering around 842 public submissions, a revised proposal was sent to the State Election Commission (SEC).
On Friday, PMC officials presented this updated plan to the SEC in Mumbai, providing details of objections, proposed changes, and the areas where maximum revisions were suggested. Following this review, the SEC is expected to finalize the plan by October 3–6. Once the final ward map is released, the commission will immediately conduct the lottery process to determine ward reservations.
After the reservation announcement, voter lists will be updated ward-wise in November, allowing time for objections and the publication of the final rolls ahead of the polls.
