Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) intensified its efforts on October 19 to manage waste disposal and improve city cleanliness by instructing its sanitation workers, supervisors, and officials to reduce chronic waste dumping locations.

Despite repeated instructions to discourage public littering, the PMC has now directed its staff to impose fines on those found dumping garbage in public areas.

The PMC collects household waste through the “Swachh” initiative and has been emphasizing city cleanliness through its solid waste management department.

However, public dumping continues to be an issue in several areas. To curb this, the solid waste management department is taking proactive measures.

Sandeep Kadam, head of the solid waste management department, conducted a meeting with sanitation staff, supervisors, and officials from the eight regional offices across the city.

The meeting aimed to review chronic waste dumping spots and develop a strategy to eliminate them. Kadam instructed the team to address these spots within seven days and enforce fines for citizens who continue to dump waste at problematic locations. During the meeting, staff also raised concerns and challenges they face in their efforts to manage waste.

Kadam emphasized the importance of prioritizing city cleanliness and reducing the number of chronic waste spots. He stated that the PMC is committed to making Pune cleaner and ensuring proper waste disposal.
