PMC to Begin Road Mapping in 32 Newly Added Villages, ₹41 Lakh Allocated

Resulting data will prevent encroachments on road spaces, clarify property ownership during transactions, and enable smoother execution of future infrastructure projects.

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a comprehensive road mapping project for 32 villages recently incorporated into its jurisdiction. The Standing Committee approved the proposal on Wednesday, allocating ₹41 lakh for the task.

The inclusion of villages into PMC limits occurred in two phases: 11 villages were added in 2017, followed by 23 more in 2021. Recently, however, two villages—Uruli Devachi and Phursungi—were removed from PMC limits, leaving 32 villages under its administration.

Despite the inclusion, development plans for these villages remain incomplete. At present, PMC is only carrying out basic road maintenance, such as repairs and filling potholes, as no detailed data exists regarding proposed roads, current road conditions, or planned expansions outlined in the Regional Plan (RP).

To address these gaps, PMC will begin mapping roads based on the Regional Plan. This initiative aims to document proposed road alignments, existing pathways, and planned widening projects.

The resulting data will serve multiple purposes, including preventing encroachments on road spaces, clarifying property ownership during transactions, and enabling smoother execution of future infrastructure projects.

Officials emphasized that the mapping project will provide a clearer picture of road conditions in the newly added villages and help streamline the planning process for their development.
