Pune: In a major relief for the workers of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), the long-standing demand to regularize temporary, daily wage, and seasonal employees has finally been met.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has approved the regularization of 1,681 temporary employees, officially making them permanent staff of PMPML.

This decision comes after MLA Chetan Tupe-Patil brought the demands of these workers to the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Pawar. The issue had gained momentum after the workers sought their rights for job security and benefits after serving for long durations in a temporary capacity.

Acting on an order from the High Court, which stipulated that any temporary worker who has completed 240 days of service in PMPML must be regularized, Deputy CM Pawar instructed the PMP administration to make the necessary arrangements. Subsequently, 1,681 workers have now been transitioned into permanent positions.

The announcement was made during a meeting attended by key officials, including PMPML Chairperson and Managing Director Deepa Mudhol Munde, Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shekhar Singh, MLA Chetan Tupe-Patil, and representatives from the workers' unions.

This decision has brought immense relief to the workers, many of whom had been anxiously awaiting job security after years of serving in temporary roles. It also reflects the government's commitment to addressing the concerns of workers and ensuring their welfare.

The formalization of these workers' positions will not only provide job security but also enable them to receive the benefits that come with permanent employment, including better pay, health benefits, and pensions.

MLA Chetan Tupe-Patil, who played a crucial role in getting this issue addressed, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating that it was a long-overdue decision and would significantly impact the lives of the workers and their families.
