Pune: In a significant move to promote the use of Marathi in administrative affairs, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has mandated the use of Marathi for all its official operations.

Following the lead of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has issued directives to all department heads to conduct their work exclusively in Marathi.

According to a state government circular, all communications with the public, forms, notices, permits, comments, orders, circulars, and reports must be in Marathi.

Dr. Mhase has instructed that names of officials and employees on nameplates and correspondence should be written in Marathi without translating English initials, and job titles should be mentioned in Marathi as well.

Signatures on all official documents must be in Marathi, and invitations should be in Marathi or both Marathi and English if necessary.

PMRDA advertisements and tenders will be published in at least two Marathi newspapers, and all such notices must be in Marathi. Additionally, the authority's website will feature information in Marathi. For broader national or international communication, information will be available in both Marathi and English.

The use of modern technology will facilitate Marathi in online services and portals, such as Right to Information, Apale Sarkar, and e-Tenders. Commissioner Dr. Mhase has emphasized the importance of strict adherence to these guidelines by all officials and employees.

This initiative is part of a broader state government mandate to ensure the use of Marathi in all governmental and corporate offices. The PMRDA's decision aligns with these directives, aiming to enhance the presence of the official language in public administration.
