Pune: A fire broke out on the ground floor of Krishna Nivas, a two-story building located near Kamala Nehru Park on Prabhat Road, Pune, on Sunday (October 13) evening, damaging several vehicles and causing panic among residents.

The incident, which occurred around 6:45 PM, resulted in the complete destruction of five two-wheelers and one car, while two other cars sustained partial damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The fire began when two-wheelers parked on the ground floor caught fire, which quickly spread to nearby vehicles. As thick smoke filled the building, residents became alarmed.

Three fire engines and a tanker from the Pune Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene immediately. Under the leadership of station officers Gajanan Pathrudkar and Rajesh Jagtap, firefighters commenced rescue efforts. Due to the heavy smoke in the staircase, firefighters had to enter the building wearing fireproof suits to reach those trapped inside.

Within 30 minutes, the fire brigade was able to bring the blaze under control by dousing the burning vehicles with water. Firefighters used a ladder to rescue three people, including an 80-year-old woman, from one apartment.

Four more individuals were safely evacuated from another apartment. The elderly woman, who was in shock due to the incident, was taken to a private hospital for medical attention.

According to residents, an electric two-wheeler was being charged on the ground floor when the fire broke out. The fire also damaged the electric meter, and authorities suspect that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze.
