Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has voiced strong support for the central government’s swift and decisive response following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 28 lives including tourists and security personnel. Meeting with bereaved families, including the Jagdale family from Pune, Chavan expressed his condolences and emphasized the need for unity and resolve in combating terrorism.
Speaking on April 24, 2025, Chavan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the government’s firm stance against terrorism, highlighting the recent measures taken to strengthen security and bring the perpetrators to justice. He underscored that such attacks not only threaten national security but also endanger India’s social fabric and tourism industry, particularly in sensitive regions like Kashmir.
However, Chavan also urged that decisions related to national security and counter-terrorism should involve broader consultation with experienced leaders and experts across political lines. “In matters of such grave importance, inclusive decision-making ensures stronger, more effective strategies,” he remarked, advocating for collaborative governance to safeguard the nation.
Chavan’s remarks come amid widespread condemnation of the Pahalgam attack from political leaders, celebrities, and civil society, reflecting a unified front against terrorism. His visit to Pune’s Jagdale family, who lost a younger member in the attack, symbolized solidarity with victims and their communities, reinforcing the message that the nation stands together in grief and resilience.
The former CM also called for enhanced support for affected families and stressed the importance of addressing root causes of militancy through development and dialogue, alongside robust security measures. He appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and united against forces that seek to disrupt peace.
